Description

WHAT TO EXPECT

Root canal therapy can save a tooth that is severely infected or damaged. When the diagnosis indicates the need for root canal therapy, our first priority is the peace of mind of our patients. Offering an extensive menu of pain management options, our first job is to ensure that our patients are comfortable about the process

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS NEED A ROOT CANAL

-Spontaneous pain even when you are not eating or drinking

-Pain that wakes you up in the night

-Dentition that worsens when pressure is applied

-Darkening or discoloration of a tooth

-Recurrent swelling of the gums

– Tenderness in the gums

– Extreme sensitivity to cold or heat

Ignoring these signs or symptoms can be detrimental to your oral health and can lead to further complications, including increased pain or an abscess.

WHAT TO EXPECT

For most patients, a root canal can be performed in a single visit. Our pre-treatment preparation ensures that both the tooth and the affected area are fully anaesthetised for the entire procedure. In most cases, after the tooth is repaired, we recommend protecting it with a porcelain crown to prevent fracture.

DURING YOUR ROOT CANAL

Once complete anesthesia is achieved, treatment will be completed in either one or two appointments based on the health of the pulp tissue. If your tooth is severely infected, we may choose to place a medication in your canals for a week or two before the root canal is completed to effectively disinfect the area. A temporary fill will be used between treatments to keep the area sterile. The height of the tooth is reduced so that this new tooth is not an active player in the bite.

AFTER YOUR ROOT

After treatment, you may feel similar pain as before treatment for about two days. You should avoid chewing on that side of your mouth for a few days or until the sensitivity subsides.
