Bore and slot sealants are colourless or white thin coatings of resinous material and are applied to the occlusal surfaces of the back teeth without prior grinding. They are used in the context of preventive dentistry mainly in children but also in adults with good oral hygiene. This method reduces the depth of the tooth grooves – thus ‘blocking’ the sensitive areas of the teeth and minimising the possibility of food residues remaining – and improves the possibility of cleaning the tooth surfaces by brushing. With the above we protect the teeth at this stage before the caries activity starts and the appearance of the cavity that will need treatment. So the prevention process leaves no room for our teeth to “go bad”.
