Porcelain veneers are very thin layers of porcelain, which are tooth-coloured and placed on the outer surface of the teeth. Their main purpose is to cover the front surface of the teeth , so as to improve the smile and thus the overall appearance of the patient. The best porcelains are those that mimic nature. We specialize in the smiles that everyone will notice but won’t know why. Like a natural smile. If you have teeth that look too small, uneven, worn and stained, porcelain veneers may be a great option for you.
In which cases are they proposed? Are there any contraindications?
Porcelain veneers are the solution of choice in several cases such as :
- in tooth gaps, to “close” the spaces between the teeth,
- on teeth with many fillings that are either discoloured or need to be replaced,
- in discolored teeth,
- in cases where it is necessary to change the shape of the existing tooth (e.g. fracture of the incisal third, nanodenture),
- in cases where the perfectly aesthetic and natural result is the main requirement of the patient,
- in cases where the patient wants a permanent and unchanging dazzling white smile!
What is the procedure for their installation? How many appointments are needed?
At the first appointment, initial impressions of the upper and lower jaw and photographs of the teeth are taken. Then there is a discussion with the patient, on the one hand, so that the therapist understands his expectations and on the other hand, so that the patient understands what can be done and what cannot be done, what are the possibilities of his choice. The impressions are sent to the cooperating dental laboratory, which, following our instructions, manufactures the “ideal” teeth, the “ideal” smile, using the “waxing technique”!
At the second appointment, the first “rehearsal” takes place to check that everything went well and if necessary, the necessary changes are made until the desired result is achieved.
At the last appointment, the final “rehearsal” takes place where we see the shape and color of the facades and make all the necessary changes, if needed of course. If the changes are not many or large, the next appointment is the last one where the veneers are bonded to the teeth and the final photos are taken.
How long will they last? Do they have a lifespan and do I need to change them often?
Modern porcelain veneers do not deteriorate over time and have a long life expectancy, as long as we follow standard oral hygiene tactics. In short, if you follow the maintenance instructions you will have them for many years!
